Celebrities like Madonna have begun using stem cell treatments as part of their cosmetic surgery-based efforts to achieve a youthful appearance. And women in Asia have begun using a specialized breast augmentation procedure that uses fat and stem cells in place of the insertion of prosthetic devices. In both cases the patient has their own fat harvested in a technique similar to liposuction (but much more gentle in order to keep the fat cells whole). Some fat cells are turned into activated stem cells and combined with non-activated cells. The combined cells are then inserted into the skin of the face, breast or other areas targeted for treatment.
